Smoky River Region has received designation from the Government of Alberta to participate in the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). Under this program, the Smoky River Region will address the labour shortage and support economic development by attracting qualified newcomers to fill vacant, full-time, permanent jobs in the Region, plus attract entrepreneurs, new investment, and new businesses.
Newcomers participating in this program will receive nomination for permanent residency from the Smoky River Region, allowing them to stay working and living in our communities permanently.
The Smoky River Region is participating in two Alberta Advantage Immigration Program streams.
Employers work with Smoky River Regional Economic Development to recruit and retain foreign nationals to live, work and settle in our communities, filling workforce vacancies.
Rural Renewal Stream:
Entrepreneurs who want to start a business or buy/invest in an existing business in our Region will work with Smoky River Regional Economic Development to discover business opportunities.
